Lincoln’s current main library opened in 1962, no longer meets community needs and is expensive to maintain. The estimated cost of a new main library is $40 million. Up to $8 million of this could be raised privately, but at least $32 million would have to come from tax dollars. In addition, new funds are needed to update branch libraries and upgrade important technology.
